1989: Tim Berners-Lee submits a proposal for a distributed information system, the foundation of the World Wide Web, while at CERN.


1990: Berners-Lee, with Robert Cailliau, creates the first web browser, editor, and web server at CERN.


1991: Berners-Lee announces the WWW software on the Internet, and the first websites go live.


1993: CERN places the World Wide Web technology in the public domain, allowing it to grow and flourish as an open standard.


1993: The NCSA Mosaic web browser is released, which displays images alongside text, making the Web more accessible and user-friendly.


1994: The first International World Wide Web conference is held at CERN, and Tim Berners-Lee founds the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) to guide its evolution.
